“Plein Aire” Painting – This course is designed for, but not limited to our Women in STEM! The phrase “plein aire” is a French term that means “outside”. Plein aire painting will be demonstrated and taught with watercolors on the banks of Flat Branch Creek. Students will paint what they see as they observe flora and geological forms in the watershed and take home their watercolor paintings.
Students will learn about watersheds and opportunities to enjoy nature recreationally through the arts. They will build experience with art skills such as perspective, proportion, value and landscape while working with watercolor. They will be introduced to plein air painting as a mode of practicing and building art skills while enjoying natural outside recreation. Several works of art will be created!
